What's all THIS about, now?

In a nutshell, we're gonna go talk to people. I know, it sounds silly. but that's what we're gonna do. With the stigma attached to mental illness being so prevalent in our society, the only way we can see to combat it is to take our cause to the streets and educate people a little.

We're going to send Hope Talks people, all of whom have confronted mental illness, out to talk to various groups in Iowa about their experiences; how they've dealt with the stigma of mental illness, the stresses society as put upon them, and how they've overcome those obstacles; what people can do to alleviate stigma...

Is this thing statewide?
Or is it just a local deal?

It's a statewide program. We've divided the state of Iowa into five districts, cleverly named "District 1," District 2," etc. up to "District 5." Standing on the shoulders of giants, we decided to follow Congress' lead and simply use Iowa's five congressional districts rather than remap the state ourselves... In any case, each of the five districts has one Regional Coordinator who is responsible for lining up speakers to match the speaking engagements.

So... if you have a group (church, chamber of commerce, youth group, school, veterans organization, etc.) that needs a speaker, give us a holler! We'll set you up with someone who can give a talk about what it's like to deal with mental illness in today's society.

Cool, huh?
